- PART I. GENERAL REGULATIONS - 

 

1. Objectives of the Hackathon

  1. Mobile World Capital, Garage Stories and their hospital partners (Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, Sick Kids in Toronto and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London), (hereinafter, “The Organization”) are launching an Interactive Hackathon called “Hack the Hospital II: Transatlantic innovation lab to improve planet's and humans' health” to be held online on February 18 – 19, 2023.

 

  1. The aim of the project is to foster new connections between creatives and technologists to develop projects that can improve paediatric care. The Hackathon will emphasize on the value proposal of the ideas above the level of development of the technology. 

 

  1. The Hackathon has four main (4) goals:

 

  1. Innovation: generate relevant projects that could be developed after the Hackathon in collaboration with the three hospital partners (Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, Sick Kids in Toronto and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London);

 

  1. Education: educate participants about new technologies, entrepreneurship, innovation methodologies, climate action and team work;

 

  1. Community: foster connection between creatives worldwide to transfer knowledge;

 

  1. Impact: improve paediatric patients experience at the hospital

 

2. Date and place for the event 

The hackathon is to be held online on the days of February 18-19th 2023. The Organization reserves the right to change the days, time and location of the event due to technical or organizational needs by announcing such changes on the event's official web site, which is www.5gtransatlanticlab.com/hackthehospital2

 

3. Participants

  1. The hackathon is open to people from diverse background and profiles (creatives, technologists and clinicians) and that are willing to improve the lives of those children who require long-term stays at the hospital through innovative solutions.

 

  1. Registering for the Hackathon is entirely free of charge and is open to individuals and teams integrated by 3 people that will be matched by the Organization with other aplicants. A maximum of 50 teams of 6 people will be organised.

 

  1. Every team can have only one (1) member under 16 years old. The other two members must be legally at age.



 

4. Requirements for acceptance and rules of participation

  1. Teams wishing to sign up for the hackathon must complete the online registration form at www.5gtransatlanticlab.com/hackthehospital2-apply

 

  1. The admission of teams to the competition will be made according to the information provided by the participants in the registration form. For this reason, it is essential that all applicants, when registering, fill all fields with the utmost detail and rigor.

 

  1. Each participants must accept the event regulations and grant consent for the handling of their personal information and for the use by the Organization of video and other images.

 

  1. The members of each team are to ensure that the personal information provided upon registration online is true and accurate and must unconditionally accept any and all decisions made by the Organization with regard to event Organization.

 

  1. Event participants can be members of just one team.


 

  1. Each team must be given a name as chosen by its members. Team names must not be connected in any way with the names of companies or registered trademarks or use expressions that incite violence or are discriminatory, obscene, or represent any form of defamation. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

 

  1. If information provided during online registration is found to be incomplete and/or inaccurate, even if related to just one team member, the entire team concerned will be excluded from the competition. 

 

  1. Teams may not be changed once the competition has begun, and should even just one member of a team leave the competition, the entire team will be rendered ineligible.

 

  1. The members of each team undertake not to present projects that have previously been submitted to other initiatives or projects that have been presented at previous editions of the current Hackathon.

 

  1. By accepting these Regulations and participating in the Hackathon, each participant undertakes, for the entire duration of the competition, to make use of the facilities in which the competition may be held and any materials and equipment provided by the Organization with the utmost care and diligence and to comply fully with the rules of conduct and safety established by the Organization. Event participants will be held liable for any damage caused to people or property.

 

  1. Hackathon participants hereby acknowledge that event participation is free of charge and that participation does not entail any right to compensation of any kind or to reimbursement of any expenses incurred.

 

5. Topic to be developed 

The topic to be addressed by the teams admitted is how to improve planet's and humans' health through innovative solutions.

 

6. The panel of judges 

  1. The projects executed by the teams for the competition will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges, most of which will be representatives of the hospitals.

 

  1. The final decisions of the judges are to be based on the following parameters: innovation, impact, feasibility and teamwork.

 

  1. The winner will be the team with the highest total scores. In the event of a tie, subsequent votes will be held until the two winning teams have been selected.

 

  1. The winner will be presented at the Mobile World Capital stand under the framework of MWC Barcelona 2023 and will receive mentorship help from the hospitals.

 

7. Intellectual property rights, guarantees, and release of responsibility 

By participating in the hackathon and accepting these Regulations, each participant hereby:

  1. Declares that each prototype or mock-up presented is an original work and in no way violates, in whole or in part, the intellectual or industrial property rights of others and releases the Organization and its partners from any and all responsibility, liability, or request for compensation for damages that should be made by any third party; 

 

  1. Acknowledges that each prototype or mock-up presented is the property of the team, which takes full responsibility for ensuring such rights of ownership, intellectual property and originality within the limits of the law (e.g. filing of patents and other such registrations as appropriate);

 

  1. Acknowledges that any publication by the Organization of the prototype or mock-up on web sites or social media will result in the same being visible to the public and that the Organization assumes no responsibility for any use and/or abuse of the idea and/or any development of the idea and/or related project by any party coming into contact with said idea online or on social media and hereby waives any right to demand compensation for damages from the Organization.

 

 

- PART II. EVENT PARTICIPATION - 

 

8. Registration 

  1. Registration for participation in the hackathon is to take place online by providing all necessary information using the form that can be found at www.5gtransatlanticlab.com/hackthehospital2-apply

  2. Registration will begin on October 1st 2022, at 00:00h EST and end on January 31st 2023, at 23:59h EST. The Organization reserves the right to close the registration’s deadline when all the spots are filled.

  3. Any applications submitted with incomplete or inaccurate information will result in the team being disqualified from participation in the Hackathon. 

  4. Registration does not ensure participation in the Hackathon. 

 

9. Confirmation of Participation 

  1. The teams or individuals selected in accordance with the General Regulations above will receive official confirmation of their acceptance to the Hackathon sent to the e-mail address provided at the time of registration. 

 

  1. This official notification will also provide details on the initiative and all information needed by the participants.

 

10. Hackathon: The Event 

The Hackathon is structured in three (3) phases:

Phase 1: Selection of participants and creation of the teams ( February 1st - February 7th 2023)

All teams must complete the registration form in the link indicated in clause 4. 

This initial selection will be made according to the information provided by the teams in the registration form. For this reason, it is essential that all teams, when registering, fill all fields with the utmost detail and rigor. A maximum of 50 teams of 6 people will be organised.

 

Phase 2: Masterclasses (November 8th - January 24th 2023)

Every two weeks, experts in healthcare, technology and entrepreneurship will teach online masterclasses to inspire and educate participants in their sectors with the aim to inspire new ideas and solutions that could solve the challenge of this Hackathon. These masterclasses will last approximately 1 hour and will be open to anyone interested in attending the webinars. They will also be recorded and uploaded to the website. Masterclasses will be held Tuesday at 6 PM (CET).

 

Phase 3: Hackathon (February 18-19 2023)

The Hackathon will be held online between February 18-19 2023. However, physical spaces might be enabled in the city of Barcelona for those participants that want to physically cowork. Such spaces will comply with appropriate sanitary measures.

All teams will present a final project with their ideas and concepts in front of an expert jury made up of industry experts. 

Evaluation process:

  1. February 19 at 19h CET, each team will be invited to give a presentation of no more than 10 minutes minutes to show the panel the work they have produced. At the conclusion of the presentation, each judge will assign a score, not shown to the other judges, and the sum of the scores of the entire panel will determine the final rankings.

  2. Once the final rankings have been determined, the 10 finalists will be announced.

  3. The 10 finalists will pitch again online on February 21st at 18h CET in front of the final jury.

  4. The winning team will be announced by Mobile World Capital.

Finally, the winning project will be presented at the Mobile World Capital stand under the framework of MWC Barcelona 2023 and will receive mentorship help from the partner hospitals to be developed.

 

11. Final comments

  1. Participation in the Hackathon is subject to observance of the rules established in these Regulations, which all participants have accepted upon submitting their applications, and to authorizing the Organization to handle personal data and to make use of the video and other images produced during the event.

 

  1. Participants who fail to comply with the provisions of these Regulations will be removed from the event, as will those who hinder and/or seek to compromise the proper functioning of the judging process or the outcome of the event as a whole by way of fraudulent or other prohibited conduct.

 

  1. In addition to the above, participants undertake to observe the following simple rules of conduct:

 

  • respect the other participants;

  • do not use expressions that incite violence or forms of discrimination, obscenity, or defamation;

  • avoid content that is offensive, vulgar, defamatory, or that violates privacy or is otherwise against applicable law, as well as advertising content or content that concerns political or religious views or other such ideologies;

  • avoid developing applications that are clearly off topic compared to the assigned challenge;

  • do not violate copyrights, trademarks, or other such rights;

  • observe data-protection legislation;

  • do not receive outside assistance by way of e-mail or other forms of messaging.

 

  1. The Organization reserves the right to reject any proposal or to exclude a participant or team from the Hackathon if these terms and conditions are breached or in the event of a potential conflict of interest. 

 

  1. If a participant withdraws or is withdrawn in any of the phases, the Organization may select new teams and/or participants but will not be obliged to do so. 

 

  1. Participants must have access to the internet, as the participation can only be realized through online means. Access to the masterclasses also requires internet access. Teams must provide an email address and a valid contact number that will be used to request any additional information that is necessary.

 

  1. By submitting the registration form, participants guarantee that all the information is correct and complete and that, by submitting it, the participant is not and will not be violating any contract or rights of third parties, including patents, rights copyright, trade secrets, trademarks, confidential information or privacy rights such as personal data. 

 

  1. The results of the evaluation carried out by the jury of experts in the selection phase of the participating teams and the selection of the two (2) winning proposals are final and binding. The organization will not enter any discussion about the result of the jury.

 

  1. The Organization and MWCapital are exempt from all responsibility, sanction, claim or demand or civil, commercial, criminal and administrative processes, including compensation of any type or nature, as well as all expenses (expressly including the fees of lawyers and attorneys). 

 

  1. Likewise, the Organizer reserves the right to modify the present terms and conditions at any time during any phase of the Hackathon, even to cancel it whenever there is justified cause, with the commitment to communicate the new terms and conditions sufficiently in advance by the same means by which these terms and conditions have been communicated. 

 

  1. Neither the Organizer nor its collaborators will be responsible: 

  • For the services that third companies must provide in relation to this Hackathon

  • For incidents arising from the execution of this Hackathon due to force majeure.

  • Due to failures or incidents in the telecommunications systems that prevent access to or participate in the Hackathon.

  • Any liability for damages of any kind that may be due to the temporary lack of availability or continuity of operation of the telecommunications networks is excluded. 

  • For incorrect or inaccurate information provided by participants

  • Due to technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to, inadequate operation, interruptions, disconnections in telephone lines and network hardware or software.

  • Due to technical or human errors that may occur in the management of the communication or treatment of participants.

  • For any damage to people or property that could be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by the participation of candidates in the participation of the Hackathon.

  • For any physical damage to the participants due to their participation in this Hackathon. 

 

  1. These terms and conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with Spanish law 

 

  1. By participating in this Hackathon, all participants irrevocably accept the jurisdiction of the Courts of Barcelona for any dispute or litigation that may arise in relation to these terms and conditions.
